During the early months of the COVID-19 shutdown, I really needed a haircut. With the barbershops closed, I had to give myself a haircut. I used my electric trimmer to cut back my hair and my razor blade to shave my head bald.
That was three years ago.
I’m still shaving my head bald even though the world went back to normal and COVID-19 remains a lingering threat. Men who shaved off a full head of hair are confident, dominant and masculine. Otherwise known as the Bruce Willis effect.
The Bruce Willis Effect on YouTube

Did shaving my head bald contribute to the growth of my YouTube channel?
- For the three years before shaving my head bald, my channel got an average 100+ subscribers per year.
- For the three years after shaving my head bald, my channel got an average 200+ subscribers per year.
Shaving my head bald improved the performance of my channel, right? Not so fast.
I must point out that the subscriber growth for the last three years may have been a coincident. People watched more YouTube videos than before because they had nothing else to do during the shutdown. Since the world had returned to normal, people are watching fewer YouTube videos.
Many YouTubers—myself included—have noticed a tapering off in performance since the beginning of this year.
3 Reasons Why I Shave My Head Bald
Here are the three reason why I shave my head bald since the pandemic.
If I let my hair grow out, my hair color would be a dirty ash gray and make me look 20 years older. I’ve cleaned up enough ashtrays, whether I spilled them or not, in the 1970s, that I hate dirty ash gray as a hair color.
Shaving my head bald is cheaper than going to the barbershop. If I got $20 haircut every six weeks, I would pay $180 per year. Shaving cream, razor blades and scalp lotion cost $80 per year. That’s $100 per year savings.
I have a more personal reason for not going to the barbershop. My mother had affairs with the barbers who cut my hair when I was a young child. We would go to different barbershops for her to flirt and hookup with the barbers. I had serious trust issues with the barbers who cut my hair and banged my mother.
Even though those events happened over 40 years ago, I’m still not comfortable at a barbershop.
Products I Use For Shaving My Head Bald
Here are the products that I use to shave my head bald.
I started shaving my head with the Gillette Mach3 Men Razor and Edge Shave Gel for Men. When shaving your head bald, you need to take it slowly to avoid nicks and bleeds. I spend ten minutes shaving my head every other day.
I used the Bee Bald Smooth Plus Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion after every shave. If I’m going outdoors all day, I use Banana Boat Sport Ultra SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion and wear a hat.
Earlier this year I picked up the Skull Shaver Palm 3 Head Electric Shaver. I spend five minutes shaving my head with shaving cream every day.
Shaving your head bald isn’t for every man. If you scream like a little girl at the thought of shaving your head bald, you shouldn’t shave your head bald. If you can shave your head bald, give it try. You might find yourself being more confident, dominant and masculine.
